PHOTOS: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Announces Major Grand Mosque Expansion Plans

HRH King Salman bin Abdulaziz has launched five large projects as part of the third phase of expansion for the Grand Mosque in Mecca, including the King Abdullah Expansion Structure, courtyards, tunnels, buildings for service facilities and the first ring road.

The current expansion of the Grand Mosque, launched by the late King Abdullah in 2011, is estimated to cost $26 billion (SR100bn), and the third expansion plan is set to surpass that, according to ArabianBusiness.com.
