House Speaker Ryan meets Saudi King Salman in Riyadh

U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan is leading a Congressional delegation to the Middle East, meeting with Saudi King Salman Wednesday in the first regional stop for talks centered on security, the Associated Press reports.

The week-long Congressional Delegation (CODEL) trip to the Middle East “will focus on regional stability, the campaign against ISIS and terrorism, and Iranian aggression,” according to the House speaker’s website.

Speaker Ryan is joined by five Republicans and one Democrat. Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Intel Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA), Reps. Vern Buchanan (R-FL), Liz Cheney (R-WY), Stephanie Murphy (D-FL), and Scott Taylor (R-VA).

A photo published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) showed Speaker Ryan meeting with King Salman. He was received at the airport in Riyadh by the head of Saudi Arabia’s Shura Council, the top legislative body in the Kingdom.
