Iranian Fighters Among Those Captured So Far in Yemen, According to a Former Saudi Navy Captain and Prince

At a NCUSAR-hosted event on Capitol Hill in Washington yesterday, HRH Navy Captain (Ret.) Prince Sultan bin Khalid Al-Faisal told an audience that Iranians and Hezbollah forces have been captured by Saudi-led coalition forces in Yemen.

Barbara Slavin in Al Monitor writes that while Prince Sultan bin Khalid Al-Faisal was not speaking on behalf of the Saudi government, “his comments echoed accusations by Saudi officials that Iran is actively intervening in conflicts in Yemen and other Arab countries.”

The Prince also said that since 2009, Hezbollah has had a presence in Yemen and were fighting and training with Houthi rebels there despite Iran’s claims that it has not intervened militarily on the side of Houthi rebels. The Prince also discussed a “Saudi Defense Doctrine” his is speech, which was moderated by NCUSAR’s Dr. John Duke Anthony.

HRH Prince Sultan bin Khalid Al-Faisal spent 20 years with the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF), and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and a Master of Military Arts from the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College.
