UAE Fighter Pilots who Bombed IS in Syria Led by Female Commander

A Saudi Prince and a female fighter pilot from the United Arab Emirates took part in this week’s airstrikes on the Islamic State in Syria, according to reports and photos emerging on the social networking site Twitter.

Fighter pilots from the UAE’s air force were led by Maj. Mariam Al Mansouri, a female commander of the squadron from the Emirates that took part in the bombing.

According to the UK’s TelegraphYousef Al Otaiba, the UAE’s ambassador to the United States, confirmed on Thursday that the country’s first female fighter pilot, Major Mariam Al Mansouri, who is 35, took part in her own kingdom’s military action.

The Telegraph also showed a photo from the AFP/Getty of Prince Khaled bin Salman sitting in a cockpit of a Saudi fighter jet this week.
