UAE’s Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Visits Jeddah, Mecca for Meetings with Top Officials

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, arrived in Jeddah today for talks with Saudi Arabia’s top leaders, according to reports.

The Crown Prince was received at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah by Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Minister of Defense and former Saudi Ambassador to the United States.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed then met with King Salman in Jeddah and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Mecca.

The leaders from the two nations discussed “the strengthening of strategic bilateral ties as well as regional developments of mutual interest,” Sheikh Zayed wrote on his Twitter account.

Reuters reports the leaders also discussed the ongoing war in Yemen. The visit came after the Saudi-led coalition intervened in Aden on Sunday in support of the Yemeni government, after UAE-backed southern separatists effectively took over the port city, according to Reuters.
