The Saudi Games is the largest national sporting event held in Saudi Arabia. The third annual Saudi Games kicked off on September 29 and will run to October 17, 2024.
In the lead up the the 2024 Saudi Games, the Saudi Games torch travelled across all 13 regions of the Kingdom. Beginning in Riyadh the torch covered a distance of 13,000 kilometers making over 70 stops, where 121 athletes, 400 volunteers, and 18 dignitaries participated in bringing the the torch to its final destination in NEOM.
The Saudi Games is a multi-game combined sports tournament with competitions in 53 sports involving the participation of over 6,000 athletes from over 200 clubs across the Kingdom.
The Saudi Games started this Sunday with women’s volleyball at the Ministry of Sports Hall in the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex in the capital Riyadh.
Mohamed Al-Salem, the head of sports management for the Saudi Games said: “Last year we had nearly 30 events for women; now we have more than 50 because that directly contributes to the goals of the Games.”
The Saudi Games website notes that they, “contribute to achieving a number of the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to raise the quality of life with sports excellence, inspire Saudi youth through sports, and create an emerging sports generation capable of representing the Kingdom In international sports forums, by revealing and developing their talents and creating spaces and opportunities to practice all sports activities. And the promotion of sports movement in the Kingdom.”
Events are being hosted at venues across the country.
There are Senior Competition prizes in 52 sports with prizes up to 1million SAR and Youth Competition prizes in 15 sports with prizes up to 100,ooo SAR.
