Saudi Prince Alwaleed’s Alarab Newschannel Launches, Then Goes Dark After Controversial Interview

Saudi Prince Alwaleed’s long anticipated news channel Alarab launched on Sunday, but only one day later went dark after airing an interview with a Bahraini opposition leader, according to reports.

The AP reports that the Alarab television station said on its official Twitter feed “that coverage was halted for ‘technical and administrative reasons,’ and that it hopes to be back on the air soon.”

AP:

“The unexpected stoppage, apparently on the order of Bahraini authorities, came just hours after Alarab surprised many viewers by featuring Bahraini opposition activist Khalil al-Marzooq as one of its first guests.”

Alarab station is based in Bahrain.

Prince Alwaleed, one of the richest businessmen in the world and owner of Rotana media group as well as Kingdom Holding Company, is know for being outspoken and at times, controversial.

Alarab news channel’s general manager and editor-in-chief is Jamal Khashoggi.
