Members of Saudi Arabia’s Shura Council visited Washington, D.C. last week for meetings. The delegates represented the Saudi-U.S. Parliamentary Friendship Committee of the Majlis Al-Shura which makes regular visits to the United States in support of the U.S.-Saudi relationship.
The Shura delegates and invited guests were hosted at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for a luncheon to discuss the work of the Shura, the Saudi economy and U.S. – Saudi commercial and trade relations.

The event was organized and hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Saudi Committee for International Trade (CIT) and the Saudi-U.S. Trade Group (SUSTG). The luncheon was held at the historic U.S. Chamber of Commerce building across the street from the White House in Washington.
The delegation was welcomed by the Khush Choksy, Vice President for the MENA and Turkey, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, HP Goldfield, Vice Chair, Albright Stonebridge Group and Richard Wilson, President, Saudi-US Trade Group (SUSTG).

Dr. Mohammed Al-Nagadi, head of the Shura delegation, opened the conversation on behalf of the delegation. The other delegation members in attendance were: H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al-Mofareh; H.E. Dr. Aljawhara Bubshait; H.E. Dr. Hanan Al-Ahmadi; H.E. Dr. Saud Al-Subaie; H.E. Dr. Sadaka Fadil and; H.E. Dr. Awad Al-Asmari.
Dr. Al-Nagadi noted that the Shura Council was especially focused on economic diversification and Saudi employment. Other priority issues include healthcare, education and opportunities for women in business. The extraordinary King Abdullah Scholarship Program (KASP) that now supports almost 80,000 Saudi students as well as their dependents in the United States was commended as an important and highly impactful initiative that can be strengthened through expanded training and employment opportunities in the U.S. for the Saudi graduates of the KASP program.
