Last week’s mosque attack in the Asir region of Saudi Arabia will not divide Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Naif said as he visited the site of the massacre.

“The terrorist bombing revealed the extent of hatred of these criminals as well as their disregard for the sanctity of God’s houses and the lives of innocent people, as they have a deviant thought and are stripped of all religious, moral and human values and their work has no relevance to Islam,” Crown Prince Naif said as he visited the site of last week’s mosque attack. A new ISIS-affiliated offshoot has claimed responsibility for the massacre.

“Last week’s ISIS attack on a mosque in Saudi Arabia’s Asir province holds much more significance than the recent attacks on Shia mosques in Qatif and Dammam,” writes Theodore Karasik in a new item today in The National.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Naif vowed revenge on the attackers.

“ISIS was able to show its reach and capability by launching an attack far from the core of its so-called caliphate. That reach is significant because it is probably based on tribal affiliations. Asir tribes not only have blood ties with Yemeni tribes, they have also been involved in recruitment for Al Qaeda, most notably for the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. Asir is the perfect nexus for extremists of all stripes,” Karasik wrote.
