Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Arrives in NEOM for Vacation, Recovery Period

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz traveled to NEOM in the Kingdom’s northwest on Wednesday for a period of rest and relaxation, according to state news agency SPA and Reuters.

In the past, Saudi Arabia’s rulers often selected destinations along the Mediterranean for vacation to escape the summer heat, but this year is the second in a row that King Salman has chosen to spend time within the Kingdom at NEOM. The location of NEOM is along the Red Sea and, given its current status as a planned city with only a few buildings completed, offers unmatched privacy for the recovering King.

This is the second year in a row that King Salman has chosen to spend vacation time within the Kingdom at NEOM.

King Salman’s visit to NEOM comes a few weeks after being discharged from a hospital in Riyadh following successful surgery to remove his gall bladder on July 30th.

NEOM is the Kingdom’s $500 billion flagship business zone that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has pledged to build from scratch near the Red Sea.

Recently, Bechtel joined the list of prominent companies tapped to create the futuristic coastal city. NEOM includes high-tech projects powered by renewable energy and promises a new lifestyle for residents, as well as opportunities for investment.
