The American Business Group of Riyadh (ABGR) has formally become part of the global network of the American Chambers of Commerce with the announcement that the group will now be known as the American Chamber of Commerce in Saudi Arabia (AmCham KSA), the first such establishment of its kind in the Kingdom.
The move from ABGR’s independent operation to AmCham KSA marks the partnership with the global network of the American Chambers of Commerce. Specifically, the transition to a powerful global brand and an extensive network of top international professionals signals a renewed focus on advancing a strong bilateral relationship between the Kingdom and the United States, according to a press release published by the Saudi Gazette.
American Chambers of Commerce (AmCham) abroad are voluntary associations of U.S. enterprises and individuals doing business in a given country as well as firms and business executives of that country who operate in the United States. These organizations are part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and as members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, AmChams benefit from the services and privileges adhering to U.S. Chamber membership.
The new organization builds on 40 years of experience, and its reputation as a leading platform for American businesses in Saudi Arabia under the former ABGR moniker.
“[Under the impetus of Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia is changing at an unprecedented pace from an economic, social, and cultural perspective. The American business community of Riyadh is ready to take our business relationships to the next level in line with this transformation,” Tarik Solomon, Chairman of AmCham KSA, said. “We are thrilled to continue working with current and prospective members, as well as the Kingdom’s government institutions, to unlock new opportunities for business and innovation.”
AmCham KSA will provide members with an expanded and enhanced range of services, which includes business matchmaking, networking with top international professionals in various industries, and strengthening efforts to have a more significant impact on relevant policy issues, the organization said. The organization will operate through the work of several industry-specific committees, each covering some of the most promising sectors under Vision 2030. These include Arts & Entertainment, Defense & Security, Women in Business, and Infrastructure.
Solomon gave an interview today to Arab News in which he discussed the incoming Biden administration and how U.S.-Saudi relations will continue to be strong under the new leadership in the U.S.
“The US has been a partner of Saudi Arabia since the 1940s and I think that goes very deep. We think that the Biden administration and presidential election victory will usher in new foreign policy changes. That’s a given when there’s any change in administration and especially in party,” Solomon told Arab News.
“Biden may request some concessions and will probably put stronger conditions on support. However, when you look at trade and investment, we’re committed to working tirelessly to elevate this relationship,” he added.
