Entertainment Activities to Resume in Saudi Arabia after Coronavirus Shutdowns, Authorities Announce

Saudi Arabia has announced that entertainment activities and events across the Kingdom may resume after months of shutdowns and cancellations in order to curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, according to Gulf News.

The Kingdom’s General Entertainment Authority said the events will resume according to certain health rules, limiting attendance to those who have received vaccines or are immunized.

Unlike in the United States and elsewhere, the Kingdom has a system in place to prove one’s own vaccination status. In Saudi Arabia, residents can prove their vaccination status through the health app Tawakkalna.

According to the report, attendance of outdoor events must not exceed 40 percent of the usual capacity with an adequate number of organizers to be posted at gates, according to the authority. Regarding indoor events, attendance capacity “is to be determined in a way ensuring distancing of at least 1.5 meters between the attendees” and organizers are required to place signs on the floor of standing locations to ensure physical distancing.

Over 13 million vaccine doses have since been administered in Saudi Arabia, and the Kingdom is increasing the pressure on those who are hesitant to get a vaccine, mandating that workplaces and many public spaces require them.

The Kingdom also this week said it was preparing to open up to tourists again soon.
