Reportedly for the first time in memory, it has snowed in Saudi Arabia’s northern Al-Jouf region following an intense period rain and hail.
The Saudi National Center for Meteorology (NCM) reported opportunities for thunderstorms along with strong winds, poor visibility, hail, and potential flooding across most areas of Al-Jawf in the coming days. NCM recently also issued warnings for various regions including Jazan, Asir, Al Baha, Makkah, Madinah, Qassim, Hail, Riyadh, and the Eastern Region, predicting dust storms, heavy rain, hail, and fog.
The Saudi Press Agency reported that the snowfall was part of a larger weather pattern that included heavy rains, hail, and the creation of waterfalls, which revitalized the typically dry valleys.
The Al-Jouf region, bordering Jordan, is known for its springtime array of wildflowers, including lavender, chrysanthemum, and aromatic plants. This heavy concentration of snow, hail and rain could lead to an especially vibrant spring for the area.
