After Crown Prince Visit, 12,000 Saudi Students in the U.S. Added to King Abdullah Scholarship Program

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman approved on Thursday, May 14 the inclusion of 12,000 additional male and female Saudi students studying in the US at their own expense in the government’s King Abdullah Scholarship Program (KASP), according to reports. 

The inclusion came at the request of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif following his visit to the United States. According to the Saudi GazetteMinister of Education Azzam Al-Dakhil thanked King Salman for this gesture, which will benefit more than 12,000 students, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

While in Washington, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited with Saudi students on the King Abdullah Scholarship Program, according to photographs released by the SPA. The photos show the two visiting Saudi leaders, in the United States for a high-level gathering of GCC officials in Washington and the Presidential retreat at Camp David, Maryland.

This weekend, thousands of Saudi students studying on the program will descend on Washington, D.C. for the 2015 SACM Career Fair and Graduation Ceremony at the Gaylord National Hotel on the Potomac River in Maryland.

Visitors to the Career Fair and Graduation Ceremony and their families can expect a busy weekend. The 7th annual SACM event has two main components, a career fair connecting graduating students with job opportunities from companies around the world, and a graduation ceremony to celebrate the achievements of students on Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Scholarship Program (KASP).

Saudi Arabia’s new Foreign Minister, H.E. Adel Al-Jubeir, was a featured speaker at past events during his tenure as Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the United States. Saudi Arabia has not yet as of this publication named a successor to Ambassador Al-Jubeir since his appointment to the post of Foreign Minister.
