Public Investment Fund-owned Red Sea Global has awarded more than 600 contracts worth $6.13 billion to date as it develops the Amaala resort.
Saudi Arabia’s luxury resort Amaala located on the Red Sea is named after the Arabic word for “hope’ and the Sanskrit word for ‘purity’, and, once completed, will offer nearly 4,000 hotel rooms across 30 hotels, in addition to 1,200 luxury villas, apartments and homes. There will be retail, dining and wellness facilities.
By 2025, Amaala plans to be able to offer more than 1,400 hotel rooms and 160 residences across eight resorts.
Amaala will be powered entirely by renewable energy, specifically solar power, making it a completely off-grid destination with zero carbon emissions due to its reliance on solar panels and battery storage systems. It will also have zero waste to landfill upon reaching full operational capacity.
Only 5% of the assigned area will be part of the project, while the rest will be used for conservation
According to blooloop, work is nearing completion on Amaala’s marina, villa and yacht club at Triple Bay, the destination’s first phase. At Triple Bay, its Rosewood, Six Senses and Four Seasons properties are set to open in 2025.
In what will be known as the ‘Wellness Core’, superstructures are present on 80% of the 220 buildings within this zone. Eventually, it will house well-known wellness resorts such as Jayasom and Clinique La Prairie.
Steel and facade works at Amaala’s marine life institute, called Corallium, are well advanced. The reef-inspired building is now visibly taking shape.
Construction Briefing reports that construction companies involved include Al Rawabi Hassan Allam, Shapoorji Pallonji Group, DEPA Group, Alec Engineering and Contracting, Havelock One and Al-Ayuni Investment and Contracting Company.
Work to flood the marina basin, a central feature of the resort, was completed at the end of 2023, and contracts for construction of the floating pontoons and fixed decks have been awarded.
Also, Amaala will feature three, nine-hole golf courses, plus a further nine-hole executive par 3 course. Phase one of development will total 18 holes. So far, all major works have been completed for three holes, and the remaining 15 holes underway.
