Contract Signed for $1.5 Billion for NEOM High-Speed Railway to Connect Port Development of Oxagon and The Line

Milan, Italy-based Webuild and its joint-venture partner Shibh Al Jazira Contracting Company (SAJCO) have signed a contract worth circa $1.5 billion to design and build 57 kilometers (35.4 miles) of a high-speed railway in NEOM, along the north Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia which will connect Oxagon and The Line, according to reports.

The contract covers the design and build for the majority part of the Connector, a railway connecting Oxagon, NEOM’s center for advanced and clean industries with THE LINE, according to Construction Week Online.

Oxagon is a floating industrial and logistics district located directly on the Red Sea, in the south of the NEOM region. The LINE will start at the Gulf of Aqaba, north of Oxagon.

Webuild was formally founded in 2014 as the result of the merger by incorporation of Salini into Impregilo. According to Construction Week Online, Webuild’s expertise and experience in high-speed railways includes “some of the most challenging industrial projects, such as the Terzo Valico dei Giovi between Genoa and Milan.”

Webuild has built more than 70 health centers in the Kingdom and has worked on the Al Faisaliah District Redevelopment Project and the Kingdom Center in Riyadh.

The Group’s subsidiary Fisia Italimpianti built the Shuaibah III Expansion II IWP desalination plant, which water supply to more than one million residents in the remote parts of Mecca and Taif.
