Saudi Arabia’s annual flagship investment conference, the Future Investment Initiative, began today with both in-person and remote participation from speakers and audience on an impressive digital platform built to expand engagement in the conference around the world.
The interface includes a digital networking room and conference attendee directory, as well as a virtual “lobby” and video of all the sessions and panels.
The “Davos in the Desert,” as the annual Future Investment Initiative is known, started in 2017. This is the fourth installment of the event.
“There are some grounds for optimism about the investment climate in the region as a whole,” writes Karen DeYoung in an analysis for Bloomberg, which is covering the event with live updates and posts. “Diplomatic breakthroughs between Arab states and Israel, and the end of the embargo on Qatar, have made the Arabian Peninsula more hospitable to foreign investment. Capital flows between the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, with their formidable respective sovereign wealth funds, carry the promise of mutual benefit.”
Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Khalid Al-Falih, and a long list of top CEOs, executives, and business leaders are speaking at this year’s event.
