In First Weekly for Ashmore, Sfakianakis Highlights ‘Wall Street’s Retreat from EM Market-Making’

In his first weekly for the London-based Ashmore Investments, John Sfakianakis and co-author Jan Dehn write that emerging markets are playing a larger role in international finance, and recent political and economic developments around the globe “illustrate Wall Street’s decline as market-maker for Emerging Markets (EM) assets.”

The full analysis, available here and used by permission, also details how the Arab world is ripe for investment and that “nuances and intra-regional dynamics are both many and complex. Differentiation requires knowledge and understanding, but is likely to pay off for investors.”

News that Sfakianakis, the veteran Saudi banker and finance expert that has worked for Banque Saudi Fransi and MASIC Investments, was made public this week in a Bloomberg report. Sfakianakis is a regular contributor to SUSTG.com and has spoken at all three U.S.-Saudi Business Opportunities Forum events in Chicago, Atlanta, and Washington D.C.

Ashmore Investment Managment PLC, based in London, does not currently list an open office in the Middle East region.
