According to Newsweek’s 2025 ranking of the world’s best hospitals, King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) was named the top hospital in Saudi Arabia for the fourth consecutive year while also making the list of the top 250 hospitals worldwide.
Newsweek and Statista evaluated 2,400 hospital based on an extensive process that included an online survey of over 85,000 medical experts (doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals), patient experience data, hospital quality metrics and a PROMs Implementation Survey. Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) are defined as standardized, validated questionnaires completed by patients to measure their perception of their functional well-being and quality of life.
The Newsweek report lists the best hospitals in 30 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States. These countries were selected based on multiple comparability factors, such as standard of living, life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals and data availability.
The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) was ranked #209 in this year’s list, jumping 20 places from last year’s rankings. KFSHRC notes that in 2024 it, “set a new record with 1,111 organ transplants in one year, including 500 successful kidney transplants through the paired exchange program, reinforcing its status as a global leader in complex surgeries and organ transplantation. The hospital also provided advanced medical care to patients from 17 different countries, solidifying Saudi Arabia’s position as a premier destination for healthcare… KFSHRC continues to pioneer advancements in personalized medicine, artificial intelligence, and robotic surgery, leading to a 10% increase in new patient admissions, a 47% rise in medical tourism, and a 9% growth in inpatient volumes. Patient satisfaction remains high, with 87% of transplant recipients reporting an improved quality of life, 93% satisfaction with robotic surgeries, 87% positive inpatient experiences, and 92% satisfaction among outpatient visitors.”
Newsweek and Statista’s rankings also included the best hospitals within Saudi Arabia. KFSHRC in Riyadh ranked first, followed by Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital (DSFH) in Jeddah, and King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah. The list also included King Saud Medical City in Riyadh fourth, Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare fifth, King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh (Ministry of National Guard) sixth, King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh seventh, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Jeddah eighth, King Abdulaziz Medical City in Jeddah (Ministry of National Guard) ninth, and International Medical Center in Jeddah tenth.
