King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) provides humanitarian aid and relief to people outside of Saudi Arabia’s borders. KSRelief was established by King Salman bin Abdulaziz in 2015 and works in 46 countries, with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa region.
KSRelief is the primary vehicle for Saudi Arabia’s international aid and relief efforts worldwide. As of December 2023 KSRelief reported 2673 projects totaling over $6.5 billion in spending. These projects benefited 98 countries and involved 175 partners.
The top three recipients of KSRelief spending and projects are Yemen, Syria and Palestine.
The leading project sectors are Food Security, Health and Humanitarian and Emergency Relief Coordination.
In Gaza, KSRelief is spearheading Saudi relief efforts and has opened air and sea bridges to deliver food, relief bags, medical supplies, emergency equipment and other materials. This week, for example, KSRelief’s 43rd and 44th plane shipments headed for Gaza arrived in Egypt.
KSRelief works closely with international humanitarian organizations such as UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
KSRelief recently provided $40 million to support UNRWA’s operations in the Gaza Strip. The funding will provide food for more than 250,000 people and tents for 20,000 families.
KSRelief has also partnered with the WHO in a $10 million agreement to provide more than one million people in Gaza with access to emergency life-saving health services, support 30 primary health care centers, 10 hospitals, and ambulances across Gaza with medical supplies, fuel, and disposables.
Outside of Gaza, WHO and KSrelief have a long-standing partnership responding to crises in WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Region. In 2022-23, WHO implemented KSrelief-funded projects in three emergency-affected countries (Yemen, Iraq, and Somalia) with contributions of over US$ 26 million.
“KSrelief is committed to alleviating the suffering of people affected by emergencies across the Region. The deterioration of the humanitarian and health situation in Gaza has reached unprecedented levels,” said Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, KSrelief Supervisor General.
KSRelief has also affirmed its commitment to empowering women through initiatives that provide quality education, healthcare, and a safe environment for women and girls. KSRelief has an online donation portal called Sahem, which allows users to track the programs to which they have donated.
