Saudi Arabia’s holy city of Mecca has more than five times as many hotels as any other city in Saudi Arabia, according to a lengthy report on the Saudi tourism sector in Arab News.
That report highlights the growth in the hotel industry – put at 172 percent in the last decade – especially to tourist destinations during various holiday seasons.
The SCTA and the Ministry of Commerce are attempting to find price gaugers and is encouraging anyone with complaints to call a special hotline.
In what Arabian Business describes as “an unprecedented move,” 30 hotel and apartment owners were ordered to repay SR300,000 ($80,000) to Saudi tourists in excess charges during a 10-day spring break.
