The Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information (MoCI) launched an official and certified account for Saudi cinema on Twitter yesterday and used its first tweet to proclaim the return of Saudi cinema.
“We are back,” the account announced.
The announcement and launch of the twitter handle comes ten days after the MoCI announced that cinemas and movie theaters will return to Saudi Arabia after a decades-long ban.
The Saudi General Authority for Audiovisual Media, under the MoCI, will manage the development of the cinema space in the Kingdom.
Although cinemas will be permitted, “the movies will be consistent with cultural and religious values,” MoCI has said.
The newly created twitter account (alcinema_sa) has over 66k followers one day after its launch.
