HH Prince Abdullah Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s new ambassador to the United States, gave his first public remarks as ambassador to the U.S. business community on Friday at an event at the U.S Chamber of Commerce, co-hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce, the Saudi Committee for International Trade (CIT) and the Saudi-U.S. Trade Group (SUSTG).
The breakfast event hosted more than 100 senior U.S. business leaders as well as Saudi government and embassy officials at the Chamber of Commerce’s headquarters across the street from the White House.
Prince Abdullah Al Saud’s counterpart, the U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Joseph Westphal also spoke at the event, as did Tom Donohue, President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Omar Bahlaiwa, Secretary General, Committee for International Trade.
It was the first public speech by Prince Abdullah Al Saud since becoming ambassador.
The outreach to the business community by the ambassador is seen as important to furthering the bilateral economic and commercial relationship between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. When Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited Washington in September, the two countries agreed on a 21st century partnership, a broad initiative to extend and deepen U.S.-Saudi relations.
The U.S.-Saudi CEO Dialogue, a Council of Saudi Chambers and U.S. Chamber of Commerce initiative, is the first U.S-Saudi business event series intended to build on the 21st Century Partnership vision by providing a high-level and influential bi-lateral platform for the business community to discuss key issues that matter to them, then make recommendations to government leaders from both countries.
