Steps toward normalizing relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel are expected to be announced over the weekend after President Biden meets in Jeddah with Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to a report in Axios, citing three Israeli officials.
The White House reportedly wants to discuss a “road map” toward normalization between the countries during Biden’s visit to the region, per Axios.
President Biden is set to arrive on Friday for his first visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after visiting Israel for high-level talks with Israeli officials.
According to the Axios report, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan “confirmed in a briefing with reporters earlier this week that the Biden administration is working on the issue, but he refused to go into details.”
Normalization, or initial steps toward it, is just one of many issues expected to be discussed between President Biden and top Saudi leadership, including King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
