Saudi Fund for Development inaugurates $40m water and sewage rehabilitation project in Cuba

Iran quashes water protests, but underlying issues remain

Saudi National Water Company unifies water distribution sector
Saudi Arabia’s National Water Company has completed merging 13 public water distribution firms to increase efficiency of operations and fix technical gaps. The move will also localize expertise in the sector, NWC’s chief Mohammed Al-Mowkley said on Monday. The announcement was attended by the Kingdom’s Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadley, who said investments in the water sector stood at $21.3 billion.

Jordan and Israel sign US-brokered water-for-energy deal
Israel and Jordan on Monday signed a declaration of intent for a water-for-energy deal, a move rejected by many Jordanians as an attempt to push Amman into becoming dependent on Israel. The deal, the first of its kind between the two countries, would see Jordan build a solar plant with the capacity to export 600 megawatts of energy to Israel, which will supply Jordan with 200 million cubic metres of desalinated water. Once the plant is operational, it is expected to produce two percent of Israel's energy by 2030.
