  • ACWA Power Says JV Acquires Second Group Of Assets For IGCC Project.

    The project involves the acquisition of the $12 billion IGCC plant from Aramco, the filing showed. The move follows the successful asset acquisition and project financing transactions for the first group of assets completed in late October 2021. Some minor final commissioning items are set to be completed later this calendar year. JIGPC is a joint venture (JV) between Aramco, ACWA Power, US-based Air Products, and Air Products Qudra, with ACWA owning a 25% equity stake. This follows the financial close of October 18, 2021.

    Saudi Power Purchasing Company (SPPC) has issued requests for proposals (RFPs) for four combined-cycle electrical power generation projects with provision for Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) readiness. Of these Independent Power Plant (IPP) projects with a total capacity 7,200 MW, two of them will come up in the kingdom's Taiba city, while the other two will be in Qassim city. Each of the projects - The Taiba IPP 1; Taiba IPP 2; Qassim IPP 1 and Qassim IPP 2 - will boast a capacity of 1,800 MW.

  • Pakistan suffers big power outage after second grid failure in three months

    Pakistan's national grid suffered a major breakdown on Monday, the power ministry said, leaving millions of people without electricity for the second time in three months and highlighting the infrastructural weakness of this heavily indebted nation. Energy Minister Khurrum Dastagir told Reuters the outage was caused by a large voltage surge in the south of the grid, which affected the entire network.
