Saudi minister says no place for ‘political slogans’ during Hajj in apparent Gaza reference
The Saudi government has reiterated its stance that the annual Islamic pilgrimage of Hajj is strictly a religious event for worship only, rather than a venue for political expression.
According to multiple reports, Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabia said, "Hajj is for worship, not for any political slogans", adding that the leadership was committed to ensuring the pilgrimage “embodies the highest levels of devotion, tranquillity and spirituality."
The statement was in response to a journalist who had asked the minister about the rules and punitive measures regarding the display of "political and sectarian slogans".

Saudi Arabia point of sale spending reaches $14bn in April
Saudi Arabia’s point of sales spending reached around SR53 billion ($14 billion) in April, registering a 3 percent rise compared to the same month last year, latest data revealed. Figures from the Saudi Central Bank, also known as SAMA, revealed that 30 percent of the POS spending during this period, totaling SR15.83 billion, was allocated to beverages, food, restaurants, and cafes. Another 12 percent, or SR6.51 billion, was spent on miscellaneous goods and services, including personal care, supplies, maintenance, and cleaning, with this category showing the second-highest growth rate of 22.5 percent.

Saudi transport authority launches first automated monitoring vehicle for Hajj
Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority inaugurated the first automated monitoring vehicle to track compliance of various transportation modes in Makkah, Madinah, and holy sites during this year’s Hajj season. With an accuracy of up to 99%, the automated wagon uses mobile surveillance cameras that determine the type and provide the data of vehicles, including buses, trucks, and taxis, to ensure safe transportation for pilgrims.
The move contributes to increasing compliance with regulations and requirement and ensuring the efficiency of monitoring operations.

Saudi Industrial Production Index falls 6.1% in April
Saudi Arabia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) declined 6.1% year-on-year (YoY) in April. Data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed that the Saudi IPI dropped to 105.60 points in April 2024, according to the 2021 base year, compared to 112.43 points in April 2023. It was directly affected by the slump in the mining & quarrying activity, which accounts for 61.4% of the index, the authority said.
