More than 550 hajj pilgrims die in Mecca as temperatures exceed 50C
At least 550 pilgrims have died during the hajj, underscoring the gruelling nature of the pilgrimage which again unfolded in scorching temperatures this year.

Israeli army knew of Hamas’s plans on 7 October, report finds
The Israeli army and intelligence services had detailed knowledge of Hamas’s plan to attack Israel and take captives weeks before the 7 October attack, a newly surfaced document reveals. A report by Israel’s Kan News says the report, titled “Detailed End-to-End Raid Training”, was compiled by the Israeli army’s Gaza Division, distributed on 19 September 2023, and was known to top intelligence officials. The document went through Hamas’s intentions and described in detail the series of exercises conducted by the Palestinian group’s elite units.
