Turkey’s Karpowership says it is shutting down power to Lebanon
Turkey’s Karpowership, which provides electricity to Lebanon from two barges, said on Friday it was shutting down supplies over payment arrears and a legal threat to its vessels as the nation grapples with a deep economic crisis. The company, which supplies 370 megawatts (MW), or about a quarter of Lebanon’s current supply, told the government this week it would have to shut down unless there were moves toward settling the issues.

Saudi Arabia may turn to gas, import more fuel oil for power as OPEC+ cuts ease
"Compared with last summer, we estimate that Saudi Arabia will likely slow crude burn this summer as there will be more supply of associated gas as OPEC+ cuts ease and potentially more use of fuel oil," said Zhuwei Wang, lead Middle East analyst at S&P Global Platts Analytics. Gas accounts for about 60% of power feedstocks in the Middle East, with crude, gasoil and fuel oil making up 20% to 30%, he estimated.

‘Insanely cheap energy’: how solar power continues to shock the world

Not only has the organisation underestimated the take-up of solar and wind, but it has massively overstated the demand for coal and oil. Saudi Arabia locks in world record low prices for solar power
The PPAs are linked to the nation’s first renewables project, the 300MW Sakaka power plant in Al-Jouf. It is just one of many in the pipeline, though, with seven renewable energy projects receiving the green light to go ahead. These new initiatives will be based at Al Madinah, Sudair, Qurayyat, Shuaibah, Jeddah, Rabigh, Rafha and a wind project at Doumat Al Jandal, which will take the nation’s renewable generation capacity to over 4 GW.

Saudis Try To Shake Image as Solar Power ‘Latecomers’: Chart
Despite having some of the best solar potential in the world, Saudi Arabia produces a tiny fraction of its electricity from the sun. The world’s biggest oil exporter is now trying to change that and last week awarded contracts to build 2,970 megawatts of solar plants --- almost as much as Greece’s capacity -- as part of a plan to generate half its power from renewables by 2030 and cut emissions by millions of tons. “We were latecomers to the game,” Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said in an interview on April 8.
