Saudi Arabia’s daily Coronavirus vaccination rates passed 400,000 as the government continued to emphasize the importance of the jab ahead of a key deadline in which citizens and residents will need to prove they have received the vaccine to take part in many normal daily activities.
Starting in just over two weeks, on August 1st, citizens and residents will be required to prove they have received at least one vaccine dose in order to return to workplaces and other public gatherings. The deadline is being partially credited for the surge in daily vaccinations.
Saudi Arabia confirmed 14 new COVID-19 related deaths on Wednesday, raising the total number of fatalities to 8,020. The Ministry of Health confirmed 1,226 new cases reported in the Kingdom in the previous 24 hours, meaning 504,960 people have now contracted the disease in Saudi Arabia.
The number of cases remains a fraction of the peak Saudi Arabia experienced in June 2020, where it crossed a daily new cases rate of over 4,000 several times.
Bloomberg reports that long lines were visible this week in Riyadh at clinics administering vaccines, and the Kingdom has resumed administering second shots after a months-long halt to cover a wider percentage of the population with first dose.
Saudi Arabia has administered 21 million doses so far.
Saudi Arabia will host another downsized Hajj starting on Saturday, Jul 17, with only residents fully vaccinated against the coronavirus permitted.
