Saudi Arabia’s giga project NEOM will start producing as much as 650 tons per day of green hydrogen in 2026, according to comments made by the CEO of NEOM Industrial City (OXAGON) at the Saudi International Iron and Steel Conference in Riyadh.
Vishal Wanchoo, CEO of NEOM, said that the green hydrogen would be used in industries to make green steel and cement.
In July 2020, ACWA Power had signed an agreement with NEOM and Air Products for a $5 billion venture to produce 650 tonnes per day of green hydrogen powered by renewable energy. Wanchoo said OXAGON will be one of the most advanced logistics centers in the world in tandem with its location on the Red Sea, where 13 percent of world trade passes, a report in Zawya said, citing the Saudi Press Agency.
Wanchoo also said around 40 percent of employees of NEOM City are young Saudi nationals “who have received the best ever education abroad and actively contribute to the implementation of the ambitious vision of the city.”
OXAGON was announced in 2021, forming the next phase of NEOM’s master plan and representing “a radical new model for future manufacturing centers, based on NEOM’s strategies of redefining the way humanity lives and works in the future.”
