Saudi Research and Marketing Group Hires Two Goldman Bankers as Execs, Looks to Expand

Saudi media powerhouse Saudi Research & Marketing Group (SRMG) hired two bankers from Goldman Sachs Group Inc. in the Gulf in a bid to to bolster its regional and global presence, according to a report in Bloomberg.

Bloomberg reports that Mohamed Nazer, who most recently served as executive director for Goldman in Riyadh, became the firm’s new chief financial officer earlier this year. SRMG also named Abdulaziz Altayar, previously an associate for the U.S. bank in Dubai, as its new head of corporate development, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.

SRMG, publicly listed in Riyadh, replaced its CEO in October, naming former media adviser Jumana Alrashed as the first woman to lead the company. SRMG owns Asharq Al Awsat newspaper and the Arabic, Urdu, Turkish and Farsi franchises of The Independent newspaper among titles in its portfolio. SRMG also owns Arab News, Saudi Arabia’s largest English-language daily newspaper.

“SRMG has ambitious expansion and digital transformation plans. The media landscape is constantly changing and evolving, and our growth strategy will enable SRMG to consolidate its regional position, while advancing its global presence,” Alrashed said.

Al-Rashed holds a Master’s degree in International Journalism from City University in London in 2013, and graduated from SOAS University in London in 2011 with a Bachelor of Political Science.
