Saudis around the world are celebrating Saudi National day today, the Kingdom’s biggest national holiday dedicated to the history of the Kingdom as a unified state.
The holiday commemorates the announcement of the Saudi Kingdom’s unification on September 23rd, 1932 by King Abdulaziz Al-Saud, who united and renamed the Kingdoms of Nejd and Hejaz to Saudi Arabia by a royal decree.
The Saudi Ministry of Civil Service announced a four-day holiday to celebrate this year’s Saudi National Day, which started on Thursday, September 19th and runs until tomorrow. Today is the official day of celebration around the world.
Buildings and public spaces throughout Saudi Arabia will be adorned with green decorations, flags, and more. Embassies, businesses, student groups and others will host events to mark the occasion and celebrate with pride for their nation. In the Kingdom, traditional festivals, art exhibitions, entertainment programs, and other cultural events will be held.
The celebrations will also take place online. Social media is filled with Saudis sharing various green-and-white themed posts. Google Saudi Arabia has made a waiving Saudi national flag today’s Google Doodle for those in the Kingdom.
For many Saudis, today is a chance to spend time with friends and family and reflect on their country’s progress, as well as on their hopes for the future.
