Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke on Wednesday with his counterpart in Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the State department said in a brief statement.
“Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, about Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified attack against Ukraine, the importance of respecting the UN Charter’s principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and coordinating a strong international response in support of Ukrainian sovereignty,” the readout said.
Saudi Arabia voted in favor of the UNGA resolution on Ukraine on Wednesday, joining 140 other nations condemning Russia’s invasion. 35 countries abstained, and five voted against the resolution, including Syria and Belarus.
Although it is not legally binding, it showed Russia’s isolation at the world body.
