Three Saudi Brothers Arrested in Connection with Mosque Bombing in Kuwait

Three Saudi brothers have been arrested in connection with a suicide bombing at a Shi’ite mosque in Kuwait last month, according to Saudi and Kuwaiti authorities and as reported by the Reuters news agency.

“The three brothers were ‘parties to the crime of the sinful terrorist bombing that targeted the Imam al-Sadeq mosque in Kuwait,’ the SPA state news agency cited a security spokesman for the Saudi interior ministry as saying. Two of the suspects, Majed and Mohammed al-Zahrani, drove across the border into Kuwait on Thursday afternoon carrying the explosives for the attack in an ice cooler, Kuwait’s interior ministry said in a statement,” according to Reuters.

The explosives that were found were of the same type used in two suicide bombings on May 22 and May 29 on Shi’ite mosques in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. A fourth brother lives in Syria and is a member of Islamic State.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks in May.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman vowed to wipe out any supporters of the ISIS-connected attacks, saying through a speech read by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, “every participant, planner, supporter, collaborator or sympathizer with this heinous crime will be held accountable, tried and punished. Our efforts will never stop … fighting the deviant thought, confronting the terrorists and wiping out their hotbeds.”
