U.S. Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook met with Saudi Arabian Deputy Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman in Jeddah on Friday, the minister said in a tweet.
Hook and Prince Khalid discussed recent attacks in the region.
“Pleased to meet with United States Special Representative for Iran Mr. Brian Hook to explore the latest efforts to counter hostile Iranian acts and continuous escalation that threaten the region’s security and stability,” Prince Khalid said. “We affirmed the Kingdom’s support for the United States maximum pressure campaign on Iran, which came as a result of continuing Iranian hostility and terrorism, and discussed the latest Iranian attacks on the Kingdom.”
The meeting between the two officials comes amid high tensions between The U.S. and its allies and Iran, which shot down an unmanned $130 million drone that the U.S. said was in international air space.
According to the New York Times, President Donald Trump approved military strikes on Friday against Iran in retaliation but pulled back from launching them.
