Just weeks after visiting Saudi Arabia and the UAE as part of a diplomatic push to align Western interests with that of Gulf allies, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson held talks via telephone on Monday with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss the dire situation in Ukraine and other matters.
The talks come just over a month after the British PM visited Saudi Arabia in hopes of persuading Saudi Arabia to boost output and relieve pressure on global markets.
Johnson has stepped up diplomatic efforts since Russia invaded Ukraine and began its bloody assault on the sovereign nation, and was the first leader of a Western nation to visit Kiev after the war began.
“Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, held telephone talks on Monday with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson,” the Saudi-owned Asharq Alawsat said in a story. “The talks tackled the latest regional and international developments, including the war in Ukraine. They also discussed bilateral cooperation between their countries and ways to develop it.”
