Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman during an unannounced visit to Jeddah this weekend.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been travelling extensively recently in support of the inaugural Global Peace Summit to be held in Switzerland June 15-16. In addition to European Union countries, Zelensky has recently visited Singapore, the Philippines and Qatar.
Thus far 90 countries and organizations have confirmed their participation in summit with about half of these expected to be heads of state or government, including French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Saudi Arabia has not yet confirmed whether it will participate in the summit.
According to an Al-Monitor report, Zelensky was last in Saudi Arabia in February to discuss his peace plan and a potential prisoner exchange with Russia. Saudi Arabia has pledged hundreds of millions of dollars in relief to Ukraine, including allocations for Ukrainian refugees in neighboring countries.
Ukraine has worked to persuade countries from the global south to attend, including Saudi Arabia.
